New Mexico
food clearence on the consumer end usa.

Storms been generally on weekends, then clears out for shopping ie restocks 1st part of ea week.

Folks consume slightly more of all food products in the afore weather patterns.
The bulk of that increased consumption favors protiens, btw.

Once again processors go into another week w cleared out, short inventory to none bought position.

Retail beef prices usa:
1/20/012 @ $4.29 lb avg 15 retail cuts.
1/13/012 @ $4.27 lb..

12/23/011 @ $4.59 lb..

1/21/011 @ $4.07 lb..

FI harvest last week was 25,000 head less than the week before.
Also was 11,000 head less than same frame 011.

Total tonnage was 1.5% less than the week before, and same as same frame 011.

Traditional type fats in the SW are lighter weight cattle vs the 011 harvest cattle.

Live wts @ SW plants avg 1,231 lbs. last week ( 44% of em hiefers in the mix ).
Week before avg was 1,255 lbs. ( 33% of em hiefers in the mix ).

Same frame 011 avg was 1,265 lbs. w 42% of em hiefers in the mix.

Decent Spring calfing cows costing $950 the past week.
Fancy 5 wt replacement hiefers cost $162 cwt.

Good hard weaned steer and hiefer calves mixed weight 400 were $172.50 cwt.

We have a 35% chance this deal may see an early "spring" peak, say in Mid February.
( granted that peak is at significantly higher prices than today ).

Also a 65% chance we simply keep on ticking up for ALL of 012.
MO.

There's another $1 to $1.50 per lb of UP retail beef price room at the retail end in the usa.
btw, that works out to significantly higher producer cattle prices vs today's price levels.

Also it's relatively easy to lock in a bottom for future sales, while at the same time simply going out the next month and buying an "open top."
