An esophageal feeder with the bulb on the end of the tube is the way to go. It isn't going the wrong way.

A comatose calf's esophagus and stomach sphincter may not hold the milk down once the tube has been pulled. Only thing you can do it give only a limited amount of milk to that kind of calf. I would say a quart at most, maybe better to repeat a pint.
