Baldwin City, KS | My brother's FIL, was around when I tubed a calf yesterday and ask how I knew if I was doing it right. I had no good answer for him, as I guess I have just been lucky several times. He has alot of cattle, and like me, I guess figures they have gotten lucky the times they have tubed them. The only one that I suspect I might have drowned was a non responsive calf that had to be pulled out of a cow that had to be pulled out of a creek. He lived 24 hr, motionless on my porch, but when he died, milk ran out of his nose. For you guys that actually know what you are doing and why you are doing it, what is the procedure for inserting the tube? If the calf is somewhat responsive, but won't suck, I kind of let them swallow the tube and make sure that air is coming out their nose, with no bubbles coming back out the tube. What about the ones that are almost goner's and don't help with the tube by swallowing? Thanks. | |
