A while back you posted a question about keeping fat bred cows that were not milking much and 2 or 3 months from being dried off. You also stated that you were 20% overstocked, and had planty of heifers. You even said you have "too many cows now"......so my question is why keep those cows around? You said they were not milking much. Are they milking enough to cover their feed cost/day? If not they either need to be sold(cull price is really good) or moved to the dry pen. Maybe it is time to downsize some. Sure it is less milk(but if they are not milking much might not be as much as you think), but you also will have less feed to buy, feet to trim and etc.... maybe better to get out now before we have another 2009...... which we could very well have with $16 milk.
