| one of the reasons they sorta stall out at around 1000 or so is lack of calcium in diet. Its hard to get that in a ration. AND calf feds are fed alot more days than coloreds. Makes it even more crucial.
Best way I have ever found was give them 2 or 3 pounds of best alfalfa hay you can find,,,no more, no less. Alfalfa has a magic component but at least feeds them calcium hard to get there any other way,,,the powdered calcium is just ground rock and they will sort that out and refuse it. They dont sort alfalfa, they crave it first. If you just need scratch soy stubble baled works for that,,,but alfalfa works for both. good protein also.
If you dont believe me split a pen into two, gate cut and feed one as said and other without,,,and watch the difference.
