| Killed a bull calf today that got wild and wouldn't come in when we moved a group of cows. Been trying to coax him in the pen for 3 weeks, and no go. Got him taken care of, and now the cow that we left with him to keep him calm won't come in. Oh joy, wasted all day with that afair. Go out tonight to get some pellets for the stove, and, hey, I think I got a calf out. Yep. Sure enough, something busted a barb wire and down on the electric fence. Find that and repair it, and get two calves back in. Go by the electric waterer and, dang, it's got a skim of ice on it, so, I guess the electric part isn't working, so, first thing in the morning I get to lay down on the ice and work on a frozen waterer. This used to be challenging and fun 15 years ago. Now it's sort of just becoming a PITA. |
