West Central Iowa | When I feed multiple types of hay during the same time frame I feed it in like groups. For example, if I want my ration to be comprised of one alfalfa, one stalk, and one grass bale.........I will first feed three alfalfa bales, then the three stalk bales and then the three grass bales, each set until they are gone. My goal is to balance the ration, and this prevents the boss cows from pushing their way to the product they want first and continuing to do so until it is gone, before moving on to the next "less desirable" product. It's a poor mans way of getting a TMR ration because you are ensuring each animal is eating their share of each type of hay and not selectively eating what they want. | |
