I also forgot to add, I do not know where you are at but you need to make sure you have a plant that will kill holsteins. It works best if you can find a contract for them. We work with JBS in Plainwell, MI (was Smithfield and I think other names before my time) the good thing with their contract is it gives you a known basis under the board. Cattle basis can fluctuate enough week to week and a holstein basis can fluctuate from there also. Sometimes it will move in your favor. But, if it were my luck and I had three loads going out it would move in the opposite direction.

The thing that we have liked is that the cattle board going out 10-12 months has been keeping up with the upticks in corn. It has kept a very attractive margin. I have gotten to the point that someone asks me what cattle prices are I cannot tell them what the near by price is. But, I know exactly what it is going out 10-12 months.
