Subject: Feeding Alfalfa Round Bales

West Central Illinois
We bought 60 1st cutting alfalfa round bales this summer to feed to the cows this winter. We have recently started feeding them along with some grass bales and have noticed the cows will not touch the alfalfa until the grass bale is completely gone. Tried feeding only alfalfa bales this week and they dont seem to eat them very fast. This hay was put up dry and has no visible mold. We don't have much experience feeding alfalfa bales and didnt know if this was normal or if they could be too stemmy or what. We are feeding to 4-8 year old cows due to calve in late April. Thanks for any advice
