West Texas
Stalks that are left standing provide ideal overwintering habitat for weevils and worms. In some locations, it is the law to destroy stalks by shredding or plowing. Not only that, but the stalks are tough and woody, and can cause problems for next seasons crop. In really rank cotton, the stalks can resemble a forest that lost its' leaves.
