North Western Alberta | My full time job is in a Natural Gas/liguids plant. I farm 1000 acres, and work full time in the Oil and gas industry. I am the Operations Supervisor at a Gas plant. We remove the sour ( H2S poisonous gas and sulfur compounds) gas from the natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons and burn it in a reaction furnace, run it through some HUGE catalytic converters, and then it condenses out at Elemetal Sulfur. That is the simple way to describe it. The sulfur compounds are then more fully removed from the hydrocarbon liquids, ( diesel fuel, kerosene, Jet B, Jet A, etc etc) so that it isnt sent into the atmosphere when you burn it in your combine or tractor. The burning sulfur compounds make S02, or Sulfur Dioxide, which causes acid rain. The elemental sulfur is used a TON of things. Its the most widely used element in the world actually. Its used alot in Pharmacuticals, explosives, our fertilizers, plastics manufacturing, lubricants, etc etc. Hope that helps! | |
