I agree free choice or a higher ratio of bean straw would best suit maybe because it would not put your cows over conditioned before calving and than you can feed higher amounts of alfalfa to her while her calf is suckling when her requirements are higher. because the more milk and healthier it is the better chance of higher calving weaning weights.
