Across the fence weaning could easily be done then. You will notice that the option 1 cows were gaing weight on stockpile where the other option was not and they needed to.
AS to the gaining weight that's as I understand it is pretty much standard in cow nutrition. I do know it is much cheaper to get weight on cows before they calve. Remember the original post was when is the best time to calve. I figure the best is least cost time, now if you have a high paying job which could be planting a crop your time might be more valuable in June I have no desire to debate that. That has nothing to do with a cow herd and forages it does have a lot with your overal bottom line.
