Chilliwack, British Columbia
All of those numbers are good for us, maybe we get a little long in DIM, which in turn lengthens our calving interval (have been averaging 14mon). The problems is we just don't get heifer calves. Had a big month this month (15 calving, 100 cow herd), all bulls. We have about 5 weeks between two heifer calves, which is unfortunatley rather common here. Found some old DHI sheets with calvings on them, and counted. The average was less than 40% hfr calves, live or dead. Just a string of bad luck, problem is dad started this string of bad luck 30yrs ago! Oh well, such is the hand that has been dealt to us, so we deal with it.
