in the least try making it a single eight, atleast then you could prep 4, attach 4, prep 4, attach 4, and being working that way. We have a double 4 with manual takeoffs, and because we used to feed in the parlor, have to go get 75% of the cows, so this is how i typically milk. Run all eight in the parlor, start on the side with the slowest milker (s) and get them prepped and attached, then repeat on the other side. This is with one person running, with my wife in with me, we will alternate sides like you would typically do in a double 4, but i have found with having to chase cows in, just too many times where your not there to take a milker off when you need to. I would go with a double 4,6,or 8 but if you have to go with a single 8 PARALLEL....i would never put a new herringbone in, especially if you have 20ft, you should have room for a parralel and an indoor return alley. And i second what behog said big time, in a proper running parlor, a double 6 is a minimum to keep a guy busy. With takeoffs, a double 8.
