Subject: RE: Thoughts on fat market

nw oh
I am never an optimist in the cattle market. If I can make a profit that I am very happy with. I lock it in. But, I never take this advice when selling corn or beans. We have way too much money tied up in feeders and feed to be letting it ride. I always think if I want to gamble I will go to the casino. Remember it only takes one BSE report or Oprah spouting off about how Beef nearly killed her friend to send it into a downturn.

I will never hit the $250 to $300 per head profits. But, I will stay in business a long time taking my $90 to $150 profits after all costs.

Dad and I do not have a big operation I am "gambling" on one July contract that I am waiting out. Otherwise, I have everything in our barns sold. I even have a December contract sold on some cattle that do not come till next week.

But, over the last year I have left some pretty good money on the table.
