ND | Could you explain to me why you feel genomics is helping you build your herd better than by using proven sires? I am a small dairy like you. If you are running high % genomics you run the risk of hitting a dud and have a lot more % of your herd affected by that dud as opposed to someone with 500 head. In my opinion, a small herd would be better served to stick with proven sires to build a good base. You are shooting for the moon with a pretty poor safety net beneath you. I think the slow and steady pace will be the best method in this situation. | |
