I am a firm believer in Genomics.. Yes Genomics is a prediction of the future. Genomics is 70% reliability. In 2009 Genomics was released. As of now in late 2011 we are seeing those 2009 genomic bulls come in with a proof. There are some changes on traits but nothing significant enough to prove genomics wrong. Pre genomic we saw a lot larger change in proofs than what we do now. There we bulls that would drop drastically and increase drastically after each proof round. Was that reliable and consistent? Now with Genomics we are not seeing that fluctuation. What is the highest genetic value animal on any farm? The most recent calf should be. So why wait for 5 years to get proven bull’s semen when you can get a higher genetic value 4 years younger with a genomic sire.
