Kaukauna WI | kyle, seriously! Me, too. We are outta $$ too. Spent our wad on cement feed pad and just got the final bill for that today. Ouch. Even today's bullish milk price increase doesn't come close to making me happy! What we are doing to make our dry cows fit in our facilities is selling culls like mad. Sick and tired of, what did somebody on here say, milking the ugly out of them?
We have about 25 dry cows that in an area fit for maybe 15. Fifteen stalls but a big outdoor excercise yard. They can't get off the concrete is the big problem (can you say "bad for the feet?") Nothing but mud here pretty much 24/7. Especially this fall. We do have enough room to feed them all, but they are not as clean as I nor the inspector like. We talked about adding on to the milking freestalls and giving the dry cows some of those stalls, but like I said above, we've run out of money and I don't want to go running to the banker any more, as old as we are.
