I suspect all the residue will make for uneven water flows down the irrigation furrows. I assume you have an irrigation furrow between every row.
I know most furrow irrigation fields in the arid west are clean tilled with not a speck of residue and slick furrows. I remember a student telling me once about a guy trying to use minimum tillage on his corn and he said the water would often not make it to the end of the furrow. Too much infiltration and in the wrong spots. Sprinklers are the solution.
