Athens, TX | I am considering buying 80 pairs for $1200, calves just 1-2 months, Brangus cows weighing 1300 pounds. I have winter pasture for my yearlings stocked at 1 head per acre but will have enough grass in the spring for them and these pairs. I will keep cows on hay / cubes until first of February then turn them on winter pasture. Will put bulls with the cows in February. Wean the calves in June and sell them, sell the cows in July. Charge the cows $150/head for winter pasture, $100/cow for hay now until February. Stocking rate for pairs will be 1.5 acres per pair. Good idea or bad? How much profit per pair just counting direct expenses (not labor, interest, etc)? | |
