west central Iowa | I had a heifer that couldn't get up after a hard calving and she started doing the splits. I used a set of horse hobbles to keep her legs together. She laid for a month or more and I just about gave up and shot her several times, but she finally got up and recovered and got sold for heiferette price after I fattened her up.
Edited to add I made a set of slings from some old baler belt after that episode. I just folded over the ends and riveted to make loops to stick a pipe thru.
