south east Indiana | I think the ventalation would be key with sheep that are confined. Pneumonia is one of the biggest problems with sheep and keeping them confined will make that even more of an issue. There are a good number of sheep up in Canada. I have friends there with large flocks but they are out in Alberta.
I would think hair sheep may work better in a confined situation. You could always get some woolies and hair sheep and see what works best. I would go cross bred with woolies - a white face ewe bred to balck face ram. The lambs will grow better in my experience. if you go hair sheep Dorpers are much 'meatier' than Kathadins so I would go crosses and lean toward Dorpers. THere is a great sheep production forum on the net called Edgefield sheep form I believe. There are folks all over the country on there so you could get some great info.
