A mix is best.
I use straight glyphosphate all the time, but when the alfalfa is growing heartily, and in a pre-harvest situation.....and I use tillage after. Without tillage, there would be a fair amount that comes back using glyphosphate alone.
My experience is that 2-4D alone will work better and cheaper than glyphosphate alone.
