Central Missouri | I just got done studying the TN data. If you look at 2006 Table 10 & 11 the only treated wheat that was in the trial those 3 years was USG 3350. It was the highest 3 year ave yielder and won in 3 of 4 locations being second in the other. It also had the lowest ave bydv score. Those 2 things are highly correlated. i.e low bydv score and hi yield. If you dig further into the TN sight you will find a slide show that outlines 8 years of gaucho data. Gaucho on ave outyielded by 2.8 bu/a. The bottom line on insecticide seed treatments on wheat is this: If you are planting really early use it to help suppress hessian fly; If you don't control aphids any other way use it. The most important part of this discussion though is kinda buried in the data and that is to scout for and spray aphids (the vector for bydv) both spring and fall as soon as they are detected. That is the most important thing that most wheat farmers can do to improve their overall wheat yields. | |
