It is labeled for that use. Never tried it but I think that is the only way to make sure roundup will kill it, is to have enough active growing plant to absorb enough chem to kill deep rooted plants like alfalfa. Here everybody sprays it the fall, after the last cutting when the plants are going dormant anyway. No wonder it doesn't work.

Rototiller 3-4" deep followed with a moldboard plow seems to work well here, but we have other reasons we have to till anyway. I'd say a 2,4-D/roundup mix, with at least 2 qts of 2,4-D ester.
