In Ontario, we have found that adjusting the DTPA zinc for soil pH improves the prediction somewhat, although that may not be true on all soils (it may be that pH is an indicator of the influence of free lime in our soils, and that is what is actually affecting Zn availability). You are exactly right about the influence of soil variability on test readings. I always figure a low micronutrient test means we start looking more closely for other evidence of deficiency.
