Little River, TX | The latest information I have seen was presented at the Idaho Alfalfa Conference.

There is other information around also. Just need to do a search. I was kind of disappointed with the Idaho information as it was more general crops and not specific to alfalfa. Possibly if I could have attended I would have heard more about Avail as it applies to alfalfa.
Supposedly Avail is the greatest thing since Grits & Gravey. Who knows but there may be some sand in the grits and the gravey a little lumpy and burned.
I suspect a great deal depends on your crop, climate, soil and management style. Besides the cost, I read that for row crops it may work a little too good. Our friends at Oklahoma State tell us deep banding enough liquid phosphate for a 6 year alfalfa stand returns the most hay for the phosphate investment.
It is true I only pay attention of hay production, and may not have paid heed to something you are looking for.
I hope there is some real knowledge about, and that it will be shared.
