yield calculation by number of kernals

This is what I do:

Measure 17.5 ft
Count (harvestable ears), not population as some stalks may be blanks or have nubbins
Pull 5 random ears out that 17.5 ft
Count kernals and average by 5
Average kernals times harvestable ears in 17.5 ft and divide by 90

Example - 25 (harv. ears) X 630 (avg kernals) / 90 = 175 bpa

I have found this to be as accurate as I need.
