Northeast Louisiana | Make sure all of your threshing components are in good shape. Buy an extra rotor belt to have on hand.
Take it slow and use a lot of reel to pick it up. RAB has a good suggestion on the double knife cutterbar, though I cut a lot of flat down rice after Katrina with a 960 with regular guards on the cutterbar and had no problems, just make sure guards and knives are in good shape and not worn too much. The MacDon has a fast cutterbar speed which cuts pretty good.
I've found if it's down flat in one direction, it's better to go against the way it's laying. But if yours is not flat, direction won't make as much difference.
