Subject: Breaking over hayland

Alberta Canada
I have some 8-12yr old hayfields that I am wanting to break over this year. It has been below -0C a few times already. How should I break them over, I usually spray 1L/ acre of roundup to kill everything but am wondering if I should work it in fall without spraying and then spray in spring before seeding once everything greens up.
