Subject: mice problem...will a cat help?

East River SoDak
Get a lot of mice in the house and was wondering if a cat would help the problem. Would a cat still catch a mouse if they have been declawed? I don't really want my furniture to turn into scratching posts. Have never had a house cat so could use a little advice. Thanks
