Hanford, CA | I had DP110RF& DP117B2RFin some trials last year. 110 & 117 are sister lines and wanted to see the added value of having the BGII out here in the west. We typically range from 65 - 105 during July & August and did not see any major differences between the BGII/RF vs. RF only. However, I did not have any non-flex varieties in the field. With that said, I worked for a seed company where we introgressed the flex traits into upland varieties and often used acala varieties to do so. Traditionally, acalas don't have the heat tolerace that many uplands have...which is why many seed companies conduct heat tolerance trials in Maricopa, AZ. It is a possibility that DPL used an acala variety to bring the flex trait into their upland varieties...trying to capture added strength & length, but possibly losing heat tolerance in the process. As far as seeing a difference in heat tolerance in CA, I have not seen it. This year I have DP164 & DP 167, which are sister lines (just as 110 & 117), and have the trial in conventional field, but have not seen any heat effects of the Flex vs. non-traited check. | |
