Yes, it does cost some money to do the gringing but I feel this is a one time process.  The staining would last a long time for the money invested but I am comparing to the process of a covering material that does not seem to stand up to abuse over the years and would have to be redone.  The garage area is like an extension area of our house so we wanted it to look good.
