All depends on who is doing the recommending. Every book or chart has a different spacing. But all of them generally have a top wire hieght of 48-52". The spacing then depends on what you have (ie small calves mean tighter spacing down low, etc).
Do your cows jump or crawl through the fenc ;) ?
I think I use 12" on 4 strand and 10-8-8-10-10 on five.
