West Salem, Illinois | You need to remeber all the rules that go along with there proper use. An imporperly used harness can be as much or more of a hazard as the risk of the fall. To be properly tied off your ancourage point needs to be above the d-ring height of the harness and able to handle a load of 5000 pounds (I tell my guys not to tie off to anything that wouldn't hold your pickup) also you need to look at your lanyards if they are a solid or fall arrest style, actually for on the farm use I would recommend a retractable lifeline. If you are interested in using a harness I would suggest speaking to a local grain elevator, any of them that load rail cars should have fall protection, you should be able to see a couple different styles of harnesses and different lanyards. Also it would be a good idea to hook up with them because they could show you how to check your equipment and possible get it inspected for you annually when they have a third party come in to do theres. | |
