Northeast Louisiana
Google "summit seat-o-the-pants safety harness". They are what deer hunters use in tree stands. The standard rope is short intended to be put around the tree after you are in the stand but you can get a 30' one which would be good for what you're describing. Tie it off to the top of the bin or whatever and you attach your clip to a Prussic hitch that you can slide up with you as you climb. I use mine any time I have to work on something on top of a bin and it sure makes it less stressful. I've found that when you feel secure it makes it a lot easier to get the job done. You can get a 3-pack of the 30' ropes for $100 or you could make your own if you know how to make a Prussic hitch and leave on on each bin. I highly recommend it.
