Greene County, Illinois | I guess you would call it a moon phase, but I always wean when the moon is dark, or is down most of the night. My theory here is that calves won't walk the fences if they can't see and they will lie down for a while. When I started to do this, calves and cows stopped bawling in about three days, as opposed to a week or more on moonlit nights. Makes a big difference if the lot is close to the house and you are sleeping with the windows open. But they also seen to start on feed better. | |
