I would recommend CMT (California mastitis test) if you are just trying to weed out problem cows. It's cheap and it worked pretty well for us. Just ask your vet about it. If you want to get an absolute SCC number with some electronic dealie, I believe most dairy equipment manufacturers have them but they cost $$$.
