Subject: Chopping roadsides

Cullom, Illinois
Question for you guys that ensile hay. Why can't I chop roadside grass and put it up in a silo? Will it not ferment right? Is grass teteny a problem? I've seen people try to mow and bale roadsides but it just seems like a lot of hassle. They get gravel in the hay, it rains and ruins it, and they may have to make three trips(mow, rake, and bale) to get it picked up. Plus if you round bale it, you have to pick the bales up along the road.

So why couldn't I buy a flail chopping cutter and chop the grass all in one trip? Blow it right into the silo. Please explain it to me. Seems too easy!
