If it is possible don't spray until the silks are starting to emerge. I have been told that Lorsban or Penncap M are best because the fumes get to the lower canopy even if the spray drops don't. Pyrethriods also miss a pest, I believe an aphid of some sort, and can cause it to be a problem. In any case if the silks are emerging then I don't think you would ever have to retreat with any product.
