How much field slope can a gated pipe/surface irrigation system handle?
Judging from the second pic, I would guess that the fields Scott showed are 5-6% slope, maybe even up to 8% in parts of the field. I wonder if this is too much slope for surface irrigation.
Another thing to consider: PA is known for rolling hills. They don't show in the pics; however, I would expect Scott to have that kind of terrain. I suspect surface irrigation does not work in rolling terrain - the wheel that Scott uses is no problem for it.
