If you run a recirc line to keep chemical agitated (not all chemicals require it) the regular soap would cause bubbles, many of them, to form in your tank. Commercial surfactant is non-foaming. Ammonium sulfate is not a surfactant, it's more or less a Ph or cation stabilizer for the water so the acid base chemicals are not tied up and made less effective by the "less acid" water.
