Gilroy 35 Miles Over the Hill From Santa Cruz | Market Review - July 10, 2007 - 2079 Head
Another large run of all classes of cattle were on hand at 101 Livestock this Tuesday. We sold 2079 for 101 consignors to a full house of both local and out-of-state buyers. Consignors sent their cattle from as far north as Annapolis off the Fred Radtkey Ranch, to a load of choice calves from Robert Frost down by Santa Paula . The cattle all sold higher this week, from a combination of a better fat cattle market, lower corn prices, and continued support from out-of-state buyers and feedlot orders. This week, most of our calves and yearlings went to Colorado , Nebraska , Kansas , and Iowa .
Slaughter cows & bulls sold on a fully steady market this week. Both calves and yearlings were in excellent demand, especially the calves with EID, source verified tags, and calves that had received the booster shots before shipping. I cannot emphasize enough how important a booster shot program is to both the seller to achieve top prices for their cattle and the buyer who is more than willing to pay the extra dollars to assure the continued good health on the cattle he purchases. Remember, most all of these cattle are traveling from 1000-1400 miles after the sale, to their new home.
This week makes the end of the first full year of our QSA qualification program with the USDA. We continue to receive new orders from out-of-state feedlots, which really strengthen our market here at 101 Livestock for your cattle that have the 101 EID ear tags. We are the only livestock market in the entire U.S. to be QSA certified by the USDA. As more feedlots across the country continue, or start a new QSA program to receive accreditation for export of their finished cattle to an overseas, higher priced market, we feel you, the producer will really benefit financially from your and our extra effort to achieve the requirements to fit these different programs. I’m sure you might have some questions about these programs, please call me, or Monty and we will be more than happy to explain and visit with you about the EID, and vaccination program. Thanks!!
