| Sometimes saving fuel, like not going after parts until a pile is needed costs by preventing timely planting, spraying, or harvest costing loss of crop production. Not much is more costly than having a crew sitting around accumulating hundreds of dollars per hour of not doing anything with a million bucks worth of equipment sitting idle because it might cost $10 in fuel to go after a part?
On top of that, present accounting rules for charging vehicle expenses don't allow for multiple purpose trips where some purposes are not for the business enterprise. E.g. can't charge for the trip after a combine part, if you also pickup up a snack and some groceries for the family.
