| Hydrogen is a very fine fuel, burns cleanly producing only water (and NOx if hot enough). But its hard to store and control because its atom is smaller than the spaces between the atoms in many metals.
And hydrogen isn't found in a free state, its always bonded chemically to other elements that makes it take lots of energy to break down those bonds to get it to a combustible state.
Its a great nirvana, but the overall efficiency is poor, maybe by applying suitable catalysts, and solar energy for the heat it can be almost practical. Steam against red hot iron is a known way of freeing hydrogen more efficiently than electrolysis.
