Artificial comes from the base word "artifice" (artifact?), which meant, from its origin, something that is created by man that opposes nature.
And counterfeit still does mean to make a perfect copy. If someone makes a counterfeit $5 bill, it means that it's a copy of a real one. It's still illegal, but it's still a copy.
I'd like to see a source of where this came from, because most of them are laughably wrong. | |
