Yes, it's probably pheasants doing the damage. They dig down to eat the kernal cuz they've learned it's at the bottom of the plant. I'll feed them shelled corn where they seem to want to feed on seedlings until corn gets big enough. Helps some but not cure all. Funny how these critters are ours to take care of or when hit with our car but all of a sudden they are theirs when killed out of season when protecting your property!!!!
