Ilderton, Ontario | We planted on our strips for the first time with our Kinze 12 row econofold this spring. I was reading the previous post about the guy wanting to go to a mounted planter. I have been thinking the same thing. As this was our first year with more than a test strip of strips we got to watch the planter operate more. I was riding the tongue as the planter went down the field. The planter would wander side to side of the strip. I was wondering if the trashwheels were, once slightly off the strip, pushing the planter to one side. the planter would then try to get back onto the strip and fall off the the other side and so on all the way down the field. Where the planter was on the strip it looks great, were it would fall off it is a little delayed. Therre was no fert in the strip as we still apply 2x2. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Are my trashwheels too aggressive? They certainly were not moving alot of soil, until the fall off the side then plow pretty good against the side of the strip.
I will add these are fall strips. They were installed after much rain into wheat stubble, so the strip is narrow and high compared to what I have seen previously. The stripper was slabbing more than tilling.
