Greg, this is what happened when I made a second pass in the same place with the drawbar moved over 7 to 7-1/2". The standing corn stalks in the middle of the pictures was my maker for the center of the tractor.

Note the thinner stand of the 3rd row out each side of center. This was cause by tractor tire compaction on dry soil. Last year the soil was not as dry when I planted double pass beans. I did not notice this problem last year.

Notillr mentioned having sidewall compaction when planting in very dry soil. I'm guessing soil might recover from dry soil compaction quicker than very wet soil compaction. We've got another debate subject with that one. Dry soil compaction vs. Wet soil compaction.
